Downy Doxey-Marshall will visit St. George this Thursday, June 20 at 7 p.m., to discuss her southern Utah-inspired show, “WATER,” at the St. George Art Museum as part of the ongoing Art Convo series. On display in the Main Gallery through July 6, Downy’s exhibition, curated by Todd Marshall Contemporary, creates a soothing environment steeped in color that evokes a calming experience for the viewer.
Serving as a waterway into the exhibition, “Azure Stream” boasts a high horizon line and careful marks at the top of the image guiding viewers toward a naturalistic landscape as if standing in the stream itself. The painting was carefully selected as it provides a perfect introduction to the full gallery show.
“This collection of paintings allows you to let your stress from the day go as you focus on the way the lines move,” she said. “I think your brain can relax and meditate with these images. They feed you.”
Art lovers are invited to meet Downy and enjoy learning more about her process and artwork this Thursday evening. One of the top contemporary painters in the region, Downy’s work is included in the State of Utah permanent collection of art as well as numerous museums, LDS temples and private collections worldwide.
