Summer Solstice Events beginning at 3:00 pm Alan Neves premier of his master thesis documentary on the Parowan Gap (Parowan City Office – 35 N 100 N, Parowan), 6:30 – 7 pm BBQ Dinner at the Parowan Gap ($15 per person – available online), 7:30 pm Sunset Solstice Program (FREE) at the Parowan Gap Petroglyphs (National Register of Historic Sites), and 8:30 pm Summer Solstice Sunset Observation. The main event of the day is the Summer Solstice program at 7:30 p.m. at Parowan Gap. Solar engineer Nal Morris will be speaking at this event. At 8:30 pm the group will walk three-quarters of a mile along the paved road to the back-up Summer Solstice carins to watch the sun set down the center of the Gap as depicted on the “Zipper Glyph”. The program is free. Those attending are asked to bring their own chairs, drinking water, and wear good walking shoes.
PARKING: New location is on the west side (Cedar City side) of the Gap. Small improved parking lot will be for handicapped and dropping off people who can not walk short distances.
The annual event is sponsored by the Parowan Heritage Foundation and Cedar City • Brian Head Tourism Bureau.
