CCDT Executive Editor-Haven Scott
Haven Scott moved to Cedar City in 1987 and is a graduate of Cedar High School. After earning a bachelor’s degree from Southern Utah University in media studies, minoring in journalism, he completed his Master of Professional Communication degree in 2018.
Scott reported for The Spectrum & Daily News from 2015 to 2017 in Cedar City covering everything from crime and courts, personalities, government, schools, events and breaking news. During that time, he was awarded honorable mention in 2015 by the Utah Society of Professional Journalists for investigative reporting and third place for Best Feature in 2016 by the Utah Press Association competing against newspapers state-wide. Now working at SUU’s Office of Community and Academic Enrichment, Scott is a member of a team awarded the 2018 Public Relations Society of America – Las Vegas Chapter Pinnacle Award for their community relations campaign introducing community education programs to southern Utah residents.
While at SUU, Scott was a member of the team that produced the award-winning documentary depicting the tough beginnings of the school, “Back Up the Mountain.” He was also a reporter for The University Journal, a cameraman for Thunder Vision, a sports anchor for SUTV9, and a DJ for Thunder 91.1 FM.
Scott enjoys the “fluff,” or feel good stories the most but has also spent many hours poring over annual county budgets and calling out questionable expenditures, consoling residents who lost their home to a fire, covering both police and non-police involved shootings, visiting with governors and senators, and looking for answers to questions that led to many hang-ups, arguments, and disagreements with local and state government officials.
